English as a Second Language

The English as a Second Language program at Metropolitan Community College offers credit courses that help English learners develop the language and academic skills needed for success in college.

Courses are offered at four levels in Listening & Speaking, Writing & Grammar, and Reading & Vocabulary.

Placement into the ESL program is determined by scores on a set of placement tests. We recommend that students prepare for these tests using the free ESL ACCUPLACER study app. Click here for instructions on how to access the app.

Resources

Language & Literacy Center

The Language & Literacy Center offers ESL tutoring, academic coaching and homework and test-preparation help on a drop-in basis to MCC students who are learning English. Our resources and services are available to English learners at any level, whether they are enrolled in MCC's credit or non-credit ESL programs or are taking courses in general education or their major. We also consult with faculty on issues related to English language acquisition.

International Students

International Student Services serves prospective and current F-1 visa students. ISS reviews applications for admission for prospective F-1 students and provides general immigration advice for F-1 students.

Noncredit English as a Second Language

The Metropolitan Community College Adult Education program offers literacy and beginning-level courses to non English-speaking students. For more information or to enroll in noncredit ESL courses, contact the MCC Express office at 531-622-4060 or adultedu@mccneb.edu.
