Congratulations, Graduate! You are receiving your degree or certificate.

The Metropolitan Community College Commencement Ceremony is held annually to recognize students who have graduated or will graduate during the current academic year (fall, winter, spring and summer quarters).

At MCC, degree confirmation occurs at the end of each quarter and denotes the completion of a program of study. Degrees, certificates of achievement and career certificates are mailed approximately four to six weeks after the end of each quarter to qualifying students.

Participation in the May commencement ceremony is optional

How to participate in the may commencement ceremony

To ensure your name is listed in the Graduation Ceremony Program

  1. Complete the graduation application by April 1. This is the only application you will need to submit to participate.
    *Note - Students Completing their program of study in 22/SS quarter must select the summer quarter graduation application, NOT the 21/SP quarter graduation application.

  2. Refer to your My Services account to ensure that the status states Received. You will also get an email confirmation as soon as you have submitted your application. If you did not, then your application was not successfully submitted and you must apply again. The email confirmation will be the only communication piece you will receive regarding graduation.

  3. Order your cap and gown by calling the MCC bookstore at one of the main campuses nearest to you for contactless pick up: Fort Omaha 531-622-2308, South Omaha 531-622-4508, or Elkhorn campus 531-622-1208. Cap and Gowns are available for pick up from April 26th through May 19th. Cap and gowns are black; tassel is blue. Graduates are required to wear a cap and gown to participate in the commencement ceremony. Cost for cap, gown and tassel is $38. *Note: Caps & Gowns will NOT be available for pickup at the Baxter Arena*

Students Applying after April 1st

COMMONLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MCC'S COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

Due to seating limitations, the ceremony will be live streamed this year. Please check the graduation webpage the week of the ceremony for the live stream address.

A professional photographer will be there to document the ceremony. A link will be posted on the webpage when pictures are made available for purchase.

When is the next ceremony?

2021-22 MCC Commencement Ceremony will be held on May 20, 2022
These ceremonies are for graduates of the academic year for the following quarters:

  • 2021 Fall

  • 2021 Winter

  • 2021 Spring

  • 2022 Summer

Do I need to register to walk?
Yes. You are registered when you call the bookstore to place your cap and gown order.

How do I order my cap and gown?
Graduates can order their cap and gown by calling a bookstore on one of the main campuses nearest to them for contactless pick up: Fort Omaha 531-622-2308, South Omaha 531-622-4508, or Elkhorn campus 531-622-1208. Cap and Gowns are available for pick up from April 26th – May 19th.

How many guests can I bring? Do they need tickets? How do I get tickets?

Graduates will receive four tickets for their family and friends to attend the ceremony in-person. Graduates will receive tickets when cap and gowns are picked up from one of the MCC bookstores listed above. All family and friends seats are assigned and grouped together. There is no charge for the tickets. Due to seating limitations, there are no extra tickets for distribution.
**Children are included toward the ticket count, infants and toddlers under age 2 do not require a ticket, if they do not occupy a separate seat.

Can I decorate my cap?
Yes, as long as it is tastefully done and contained to the top of the cap.

What can honor society members wear?

  • Members of Alpha Delta Omega, Kappa Beta Delta, National Technical Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa are eligible to wear the tassel, pin, sash/stole or medallion of their honor society.
  • Contact your honor society chapter for information on ordering. Please see the MCC Organizations webpage for contact information.

How will I know if I graduate with Honors?

  • To graduate with honors, a student must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above in his/her program of study (degrees and certificates of achievement only).
  • Honors graduates will receive a gold honors medallion to wear during the ceremony. The medallions will be placed on the assigned seat in the arena.

Will I receive my diploma at the ceremony?
No, you will not receive a diploma. A diploma cover is used for the ceremony. Diplomas and certificates of achievement for each quarter are mailed four to six weeks after the end of the quarter the student is graduating from. For example, if a student has applied for graduation during the fall quarter, his/her diploma will not be mailed until after fall quarter. It is possible that the student has already received his/her diploma or certificate prior to the May commencement ceremony.

Where should my family, friends, and I park?
Please refer to the Baxter Arena parking map and utilize the street entrances suggested. It is highly recommended that you give yourself plenty of time to arrive and park.

Will my family be able to take pictures?

  • Friends and family are not allowed onto the processional floor.
  • Professional photographers will take pictures of the graduates as they receive their awards.

What do I do the day of the ceremony?

  • Doors will open beginning at 6:30 p.m. Please arrive no later than 7:00 p.m., wearing your gown, cap, and tassel. Wear the tassel over the right front of the cap.
  • Enter via the main entrance. Practice social distancing, staying 6 feet apart in line. You will be directed down the side hallway.
  • Graduates will be ushered to their assigned seat. Once seated, graduates will remain in their seats until the end of ceremony.
  • If your name is pronounced differently than it is spelled or if you wish to have your name pronounced a certain way when you receive your award, email the Records Office at  records@mccneb.edu and leave a phone number and a reader will call you to verify pronunciation.
  • On each seat in the Arena, graduates will find a graduation program and diploma cover.
  • Graduates will be released by row to cross the stage and should bring the diploma cover from their chair with them to the stage.
  • When name is called, graduate will walk across the stage to marked spot, stop and turn to the audience/photographer, then exit the stage.
  • A second photograph will be taken off stage.
  • Graduates will then go back to assigned seats.
  • Students will recess out of the arena to Pomp & Circumstance, following social distancing guidelines. Students will be led directly to the exit.
  • Leave coats, purses and other personal items with your guests or family members. The College is not responsible for personal items.
