The MCC Project Management Academy is a compressive learning program suitable for all background and experience levels. This learning program teaches project management principles, real world application, and project simulations integrating many of the concepts and best practices of project management. The program’s diverse curriculum is aligned with several globally accredited industry certifications to enhance job growth and performance.

Upon successful demonstration of project management knowledge and skills through project activities, students achieve a MCC Project Management Academy Certificate and are prepared to obtain several project-related certifications in project management, business analytics and agile/scrum.

If you are already certified through PMI, you must complete authorized continued education credits every 3 years to retain your certification. All classes in the MCC PM Academy are authorized by PMI for Professional Development Units (PDU’s) and taught by certified PMI instructors.

All business analysis curriculum is aligned with standards established by the International Institute for Business Analysis™ (IIBA) and are taught by IIBA certified instructors.

Certified Scrum Master® (CSM) is taught by a Scrum Alliance® Certified Scrum Trainer (CST) and an authorized training provider. CSM is a registered mark of the Scrum Alliance.

Foundations of Project Management

This course introduces participants to the essentials of project management. From the standpoint of a single, stand-alone project, students go through the project life cycle to manage a real project in the workplace. Topics include project life cycles, including initiation, planning, executing, controlling, and closing. Subjects addressed include project charter, creating a WBS, network diagramming, finalizing the project plan, scope management, earned value measurement, and change control. This course is for project team members, project managers, and key stakeholders.

Introduction to Agile Project Management

This course introduces attendees to the essentials of agile project management. Topics covered include when, how, and where to employ agile, with particular emphasis on agile planning, agile estimating techniques, and agile execution. Subject areas addressed include various agile frameworks (including Scrum), user stories, the history of agile, sprints, retrospectives, requirements, common agile misconceptions, and agile as it pertains to the organization. Terminology, processes and definitions, where appropriate follow the Project Management Institute’s (PMI®) Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide).

Certified Scrum Master

If you are ready to learn Scrum, the CSM® is often considered the gold standard of scrum methodology. In this 14-hour course, you will learn and apply the Scrum framework and gain an understanding of team accountabilities, events, and artifacts as well as how to guide your team to apply Scrum. This interactive and engaging learning experience provides you real world skills that you can immediately apply to your work and expand your career opportunities. Upon successful completion of this course, you will be ready to take and pass the CSM exam. Exam is included in tuition.

IIBA™ Entry Certificate in Business Analysis™ (ECBA)

This 24-hour hybrid course is for project professionals who want to become more versed in core knowledge and competencies for the in–demand field of business analysis. Participants will engage in hands-on lessons on the tools and techniques of business analysis planning, monitoring, requirements elicitation, requirements analysis, stakeholder management, requirements life cycle management, design definition, and documentation. Curriculum is aligned with the widely adopted framework through the International Institute of Business Analysis™ (IIBA) and is taught by instructors who are IIBA™ certified. Upon successful completion of training and self-study, participants are prepared for the Entry Certificate in Business Analysis (ECBA™) exam.

Project Quality and Control

This course introduces participants to key concepts, methodologies, and best practices of project management, quality and control, and philosophies and techniques. Topics include planning, quality assurance, performance control, establishing project metrics, change control and configuration, categorization of complexity, project sponsorship, stakeholder analysis and communication, and techniques for managing large, high uncertainty and "edge of chaos" projects. Participants work in a team environment with hands-on activities.

Prerequisite – Foundations of Project Management

Project Requirements, Procurement and Cost management

This course introduces participants to the key concepts, methodologies, and best practices of collecting and managing project requirements, project estimating, budgeting, financial justification, and cost control. Topics include procurement planning, contract selection, source selection, procurement documents and procurement execution and control. The topic of earned value management, a technique commonly employed on larger projects to track progress and performance, will also be covered. Subjects addressed include the process for collecting and analyzing requirements, defining scope through effective WBS practices, procurement planning, execution, and contract control. This course is for project team members, project managers, key stakeholders, and professionals who desire a career in project management.

Prerequisite – Foundations of Project Management

PMI® Exam Prep

This course is designed to prepare students to take and pass the PMI® PMP or CAPM exam. This course takes participants through the initiating, planning, execution, controlling and closing processes and uses group exercises as a hands-on approach to reinforce key concepts. Participants are given practical tips, memory joggers, best-practice advice on effective test taking, and recommended study materials and methods. Practice tests are included. This course is for students who desire to effectively manage and control a project through completion, have previously taken the Project Management Academy courses, and aspire to pass the PMP or CAPM certification test.

AREA OF EMPHASIS (optional)

An emphasis is an optional step-up certification track that will build on the fundamentals taught in the program to help participants dig deeper into their chosen specialization. An emphasis is used to signal more in-depth knowledge in a particular area of interest and is designed to be completed in conjunction with regular PMA coursework through complementing schedules. By adding an area of emphasis, participants enhance their professional marketability and ability to successfully lead projects. Adding an area of emphasis is optional and not required.

Emphasis: Quality Improvement Manager

This emphasis is for project professionals who want to become versed in lean and six sigma practices to improve project performance relative to quality, safety, and efficiency. Participants will engage in interactive simulations, small group interaction, and a comprehensive real-world projects including process mapping, root cause analysis, DMAIC methodology, visual management, pareto analysis, data collection, and statistical analysis.

This emphasis is a progressive model program, which participants start at White Belt and advance Yellow Belt and Green Belt certifications. The curriculum is aligned with international Lean Six Sigma certifications through American Society of Quality (ASQ®), which is globally recognized industry standard. Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a MCC Lean Six Sigma certification, and can also pursue the American Society for Quality® Lean Six Sigma certifications.
