Downloading EBSCO eBooks

EBSCOhost eBooks can be checked out and downloaded to computers, smartphones, and other devices for offline viewing.

Checkout period: Checkout periods may vary from title to title. In general eBooks can be checked out for 1-30 days. Once the checkout period expires you will not be able to open the eBook on your computer/device. NOTE: If you finish an eBook before your checkout period expires please check it in manually so that others can view it.

Preliminary steps

Before you can download an eBook you must have either a MyEBSCOhost or a Google account. You will also need an Adobe ID unless you are downloading to a mobile device. You only need to complete these steps once.

MyEBSCOhost or Google Accounts

  1. From within the eBooks database, click on Sign In (on the blue bar across the top).

  2. Sign on to your Google account or create a MyEBSCOhost account.

  3. To create a MyEBSCOhost account, click on Create a New Account (on the right).
    Follow the on-screen instructions. EBSCO will ask for your name, e-mail address, a unique login name, password, and a secret question/answer in case you forget your login or password.

Downloading to a Computer (Windows or Mac)

  1. Install the free Adobe Digital Editions software on your computer, available at:

  2. During the installation process Adobe will give you the option of authorizing your computer with an Adobe ID. An ID is not needed if you only plan to view eBooks on one computer but it is required if you want to download/transfer your eBooks to multiple computers.

  3. Use your computer's web browser to access the library's eBook database.

  4. To download an eBook, click the Download This eBook link.

  5. If you are not logged on to your MyEBSCOhost account, you will be prompted to do so.

  6. Select a Checkout period from the drop-down menu and click the Checkout & Download button.

  7. The eBook is added to the Checkouts area of your MyEBSCOhost folder.

  8. A File Download dialog box will automatically open. Select Open.

  9. Adobe Digital Editions should automatically open the eBook.

  10. To access your eBook later, open Adobe Digital Editions on your computer and select the eBook from your Library.

Downloading to a Smartphone or other Mobile Device

  1. An Adobe ID is NOT required.

  2. Download the EBSCO eBooks app to your device, available at:

  3. After downloading the app you must authenticate it and designate MCC as your library:

    1. Open the app on your device and tap Authorize.


    3. Enter your MCC username and password and tap Login.

Downloading to a Kindle Fire

  1. Create an Adobe ID and password at:

  2. Using your Kindle's web browser go the following URL and follow the steps for installing Bluefire Reader. You will need to enable "allow installation of applications that are not from Appstore" on your Kindle

  3. After downloading the app,  open it.

  4. Enter your Adobe ID and password and tap Authorize.

  5. Use your Kindle's web browser to access the MCC library's eBook collection.

  6. To download an eBook, tap Download This eBook.

  7. If you are are not logged into your MyEBSCOhost account, you will be prompted to do so.

  8. Select a Checkout period from the drop-down menu and tap Checkout & Download.

  9. The eBook is added to the Checkouts area of your MyEBSCOhost folder.

  10. Bluefire should automatically open and prompt you to view your library or begin reading the eBook.
