Global Business Management

Overview

Global business professionals are responsible for the management and daily functions of multinational corporations and business organizations both in the public and private sector.  This includes import/export activities, government and nonprofit entities, entrepreneurial ventures and other private interests.  Students learn foundational competencies specific to culturally diversities and social norms, varied legal and regulatory environments, and divergent business practices and expectations.  Successful global business professionals are familiar with all core functions of a business including accounting and finance, management, marketing, and all other activities related to the global production and distribution of goods and services.

Learning Goals

  • Identify sources and trends of globalization and determine effects on individuals and populations.
  • Recognize the challenges globalization presents specific to the core business functions relative to the production and distribution of goods and services.     
  • Analyze the relationship of global business to various constructs including governments, political structures, economic systems, and legal frameworks.
  • Compare and contrast divergent global societal norms and expectations using socioeconomic and cultural perspectives.
  • Identify relevant global management and marketing challenges and describe tools and techniques that can be used to address these issues.
  • Recognize historical and current conditions in emerging markets and evaluate opportunities to mitigate global risks that can adversely impact business operations.
