Media alert: MCC to host event honoring women in science, technology, engineering and production careers


What: Metropolitan Community College will host STEP Forward: Honoring Women in Science, Technology, Engineering & Production Careers. The event will include educational sessions, a question and answer panel, presentations, networking and remarks from area business leaders. 

When: Thursday, Sept. 21, 1-5 p.m.

Awards reception at 5:30 p.m.

Where: The main event will be held inside the Center for Advanced and Emerging Technology, Fort Omaha Campus, 32nd Street and Sorensen Parkway.
Awards reception will be held at the Swanson Conference Center on the second floor of the Institute for the Culinary Arts on the Fort Omaha Campus, 32nd Street and Sorensen Parkway.



Background: Speakers include Carolyn Lee, executive director of the Manufacturing Institute; Jennifer McNelly, president of 180 Skills, LLC; Vanessa Brown, senior vice president of human resources at Valmont Industries; Timothy Burke, president and chief operating officer at Omaha Public Power District; and Diane Duren, retired executive vice president at Union Pacific Railroad. 


Registration for the event is closed. Attendees were either invited or nominated to attend due to their work in the field.  



Metropolitan Community College, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, is a comprehensive, public community college that offers affordable, quality education to all residents of Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy and Washington counties. Founded in 1974, MCC has the largest enrollment out of six community colleges in Nebraska and is the second largest postsecondary institution in the state. MCC serves more than 40,000 unique credit and noncredit students.
