Media alert: Media details for MCC grand opening tomorrow

 

What: Metropolitan Community College will host a grand opening for the $90 million Fort Omaha Campus expansion project. The College will celebrate the opening of three new buildings; the Career and Academic Skills Center, the Center for Advanced and Emerging Technology and the Construction Education Center. There will be media availability and a tour following the ceremony. 

When: Friday, Sept. 22, 1 p.m.

Where: Innovation Central inside the Center for Advanced and Emerging Technology, Building 24. It is recommended media enter at the east entrance of 30th and Fort streets intersection and take the first left after entering and park in the media lot to the south of Building 26, Welding Instructional Facility.

 

Agenda:

1 p.m. – Program begins with remarks from College, state and local leaders

Speakers include Nate Barry, MCC dean of career and technical education; Roger Garcia, MCC Board of Governors Chair; Pete Ricketts, Governor of Nebraska; Jean Stothert, City of Omaha Mayor; Chris Rodgers, Douglas County Board Commissioner; Carolyn Lee, Manufacturing Institute director; Jim Sutfin, Millard Public Schools Superintendent; Jim Sibley, Kiewit Building Group senior vice president; Jordan Hopwood, MCC student. 

1:30 p.m. – Ribbon cutting ceremony

After program and ceremony – MCC administrative leaders will be available to speak with the media in the designated area: 

Nate Barry – dean of career and technical education

Roger Garcia – MCC Board of Governors Chair

Lisa Goodwin – executive director of the Career and Academic Skills Center

Tom Pensabene – associate vice president for workforce and IT innovation
