Omaha's third annual Lawyers in the City will be at MCC Oct. 20

OMAHA, Neb. — Area residents will have the opportunity to get free legal advice from volunteer lawyers and paralegals at Omaha’s third annual Lawyers in the City event on Friday, Oct. 20, 9 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m., inside room 250 of the Connector Building at Metropolitan Community College’s South Omaha Campus, 27th and Q streets.

The goal of the event is to give individuals without financial means to hire a lawyer a chance to get basic legal information on subjects such as divorce, child custody, name changes, protection orders, small claims, tenant rights, bankruptcy and immigration (morning session only). Community members will be seen on a first-come, first-serve basis. Spanish-speaking volunteers will also be available. The volunteer group is made up of both professional lawyers and paralegals and law students. There is no cost to meet with a volunteer.

The service event is sponsored by Creighton University School of Law, Justice for Our Neighbors Nebraska, Legal Aid Nebraska, Midlands Bar Association, Omaha Bar Association and the Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Nebraska Bar Association.
