New career certificate focuses on immigration laws and procedures

OMAHA, Neb. — Metropolitan Community College will begin offering the Immigration Laws, Policies and Procedures career certificate this fall quarter as part of the Legal Studies program. The certificate will prepare students for careers in non-governmental organizations, local and federal government agencies, private and public institutions and businesses. The certificate is offered entirely online for the convenience of working professionals and other students.

“Immigration is a hot topic but it’s also complex,” said Andrew Sagartz, MCC business law paralegal instructor. “Working in careers that help non-citizens with immigration issues requires significant training. MCC’s new certificate provides this training in the area of immigration law.”

To earn the certificate, students must complete a total of 25.5 credit hours. Classes include subject areas such as US Immigration Law, Immigration Regulatory Agencies and other immigration court and service learning topics.
