Media alert: Grain bin rescue training to educate professionals on
dangerous procedure

What: Metropolitan Community College will host a grain bin rescue training designed for professionals already in the emergency services field, including current MCC adjunct instructors.

When: Monday, July 23 at 1 p.m.

Where: South Omaha Campus, 27th and Q streets. Media is asked to enter the front lobby of the Mahoney Building (far west building), where they will be escorted to the training.

Background: Grain entrapment or grain elevator rescues have to be performed when a person becomes submerged in grain and cannot get out. Not uncommon in agricultural states such as Nebraska and Iowa, the rescues are extremely dangerous. According to Purdue University, 95 percent of victims are young boys with an average age of 11.
