TRiO students who are single parents had the opportunity to
attend the 12th Annual Reach for the Stars Single Parent Conference on Friday, Nov.18.
They spent the day attending various workshops designed to help enhance and improve
not only their parenting skills but their life skills as well. The conference, held at
the South Omaha Campus, was also attended by more than 200 college and high school
students, counselors and teachers.
The guest speaker, Alicia Youngblood, human resource manager/assistant director
for The Educare Center of Omaha, shared her personal story of hard work and
dedication. She stressed the importance of reaching your goals and sticking to your

items to car seats were provided by the agencies who displayed their services at the
conference. Every participant at the conference was also given books to take home and
read to their children. Special thanks to Mainfreight for their generous donation of
hundreds of books and to GradeCheck.net for their contribution that allowed meals to
be served to conference attendees.
