The Women's Center for Advancement has a local focus to help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault regain their lives and enter the workforce. Through its Bridges to Opportunity Program, Leadership Academy, victim support groups, classes and outreach, the Women's Center helps build and maintain strong families, decrease dependence on social services and build basic skills for stable employment.

Beth Riley, Executive Director and Maribel Navarrete, Student Volunteer discuss Inclusive Communities’ youth development program which focuses on leadership and civic engagement. They also discuss IncluCity Camp a YouTube music video about Maribel Navarrete's experience and Omaha Table Talk, an adult program which promotes intergroup dialogue around Omaha's racial issues.

Lina Traslavina Stover, a native of Colombia with undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Nebraska, explains how one must have realistic self-expectations. She tells the story of how her self-imposed high expectations to succeed caused the eating disorder, bulimia. Her message of acceptance is "be human, not perfect."

Jeff Strawn, MCC Fire Science Coordinator & Instructor reviews the scope of Metro’s Fire Science Technology Program. He explains how students complete general education requirements and receive real-world fire training experience from industry professionals, prepared to seek out jobs nationwide. Also discussed is MCC's unique Fireteen Safety Skills Boot Camp - hands-on fire science training in first aid, CPR, and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Participants also receive basic fire safety concepts and the use of a fire extinguisher.

Omaha Women’s Fund

Michelle Zych, Executive Director explains the goal of the Omaha Women's Fund is to enable women to achieve full partnership in the Omaha community. She explains that women are still at a disadvantage in the workplace, housing, financial literacy, economic self-sufficiency and domestic violence. The core effort of the Women's Fund is research to identify solutions and lead change on behalf of women and girls.
