Pass to Class

MCC's Pass to Class, a pilot program with Metro Area Transit (MAT) to encourage bus ridership with MCC students and reduce parking congestion on campus, has begun for Winter quarter. With Pass to Class, all MCC credit students can pick up their no-cost MAT bus pass valid for the Winter quarter that allows for rides to and from MCC locations that are on existing MAT routes and for other education-related purposes. The passes can be picked up at any Student Services. The passes are valid while MCC is in session and will no longer work after the last day of class for the quarter.

For more information on the program, visit www.mccneb.edu/mat.

MCC Notebook: An Online Forum About Teaching and Learning

To provide Academic Affairs faculty and administrators a way to discuss topics of teaching and learning outside of the College's email system, Academic Council has created a SharePoint site called MCC Notebook.

The MCC Notebook forum's purpose is to promote thoughtful, provocative and constructive dialogue about teaching and learning among all MCC faculty, academic deans and the Vice President of Academic Affairs. Although many topics will be addressed in this forum, it is not intended primarily to handle complaints; the forum especially invites discourse that addresses:

  • how we use various teaching methods, techniques and tools to accomplish goals and objectives;
  • how national trends and stories in higher education apply to MCC; and
  • how we can improve the teaching and learning environment at MCC.

Different from the online Faculty Forum of a few years ago, the MCC Notebook starter discussion categories include WX and FX, sustainability and teaching tips. Faculty will be able to add topics as needed.

To access the forum and read content, visit http://staffshare.mccneb.edu/mccnotebook/default.aspx. To post and contribute content, click the Sign In link in the upper-right-hand corner. If you are off campus, sign in using mccnet\yourusername and the password that you use to access email. Take a minute to review the rationale and guidelines for posting. For help with the site, consult the site directions and help or contact Cindy Catherwood at 738-4683 or cchurchill@mccneb.edu.

Upcoming information sessions about MCC Notebook:

  • Tuesday, Dec. 1, 5:30-6 p.m. SOC, Connector Building., Room 206
  • Friday, Dec. 11, 11:30-noon FOC, Bldg. 10, Room 122

The sessions are from 9 a.m.-noon or 1-4 p.m. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet privately with a USCIS official to ask questions.

Vicki Rodgers, Enrollment/Records Specialist, to Retire

Vicki Rodgers began working at MCC May 24, 1976. She saw an ad for a part-time temporary job at the College. She applied, got the job, liked the position so much that after four weeks, applied for the full-time position and has been here ever since.

During her time here, Rodgers has served on various committees, been part of the negotiating team for the start-up of the ESP Bargaining Unit and was key to the centralization of the Records Department. Her proudest moment at MCC came when she found an uncashed money order that had kept a student from receiving her diploma; Rodgers was the key person in rectifying this situation.

Rodger's favorite memory is seeing how much the College has grown. "I have had the opportunity to grow and change with the College. I went from having a high school diploma to several associate degrees and then going on to UNO to earn my bachelor's degree."

After she retires at the end of December, Rodgers plans to stay on at MCC part-time and garden, sort through her books and CDs and hopefully travel.

Join Rodgers for her retirement reception Monday, Dec. 14, 2-4:30 p.m. at the Fort Omaha Campus, Bldg. 30, Room 124.

Toys for Tots

The mission of the Marine Corp Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community. All MCC locations will have Toys for Tots drop boxes now until Dec. 12.

Note from MCC United Way Campaign Manager

Thank you to those who contributed to this year's United Way campaign. Your gift to the United Way campaign creates lasting change in our community. Your support will help keep valuable resources and services in our community for those in need.

Thank you for caring enough to give, advocating for those who need help.

MCC Sponsors Channel 94.1 Diaper Drive

MCC is teaming up with Channel 94.1 for the annual Diaper Drive. Community members are encouraged to donate diapers and wipes at Nobbies on 120th and Center, Dec. 18-20. MCC will be donating the semi-truck to be filled and driver for the fundraiser. All donations go to the Lydia House, a branch of the Open Door Mission, to be distributed to needy mothers with infants.

Weekly Green Tip

Self-cleaning ovens are a great convenience, but they accomplish their tasks by heating to very high temperatures and burn off spilled or accumulated food.  So use them only when the oven really needs the cleaning, once a month or so.  And do it right after use so it is preheated for the cleaning cycle.

Employee Professional Development Registration Process

Employee Professional Development Workshop (designated with a "PDEV" course prefix) registration process is as follows:

  1. Send an email to Adam Smith at asmith102@mccneb.edu  in Corporate Education & Training (CET) with a copy to your supervisor. The following information must be included in your email:
    • Your ID #
    • Workshop name/number
    • Employee status (F/T regular, P/T regular, temp, adjunct)
    • Job title
    • Cost center number to be charged if not a regular employee (00-0-00000)
    • If your dependent is taking one of these classes, you need to include their name, relationship and date of birth in addition to the first four items. (Note that not all of the classes will be eligible for dependent participation.)
  2. Should an employee not be approved to attend the class by their supervisor, the supervisor must do a 'Reply To All' with formal disapproval of registration.
  3. A confirmation email will be sent to you when you are registered, and, if needed, when you are disenrolled from a class.  Your supervisor will also be copied.
  4. Deadlines for registration will be three business days before the start date.

If you are unable to attend the class or need to cancel you must send an email to Adam Smith and copy your supervisor immediately. If your absence from the class is due to an illness and you are unable to get to your email, call Smith at 457-2566.
