Gerry Sullivan - MCC Foundation Board of Directors
Gerry Sullivan is a community volunteer. He retired in 2013 from the Law Department of Union Pacific Railroad where he was a Senior General Attorney, specializing in real estate; previously he worked for the Real Estate Law & Finance Department of Safeway Stores Inc. in Oakland, CA, and for Southern Pacific Transportation Company in San Francisco. Gerry’s local community involvement has included service on the Boards of the Friends of Joslyn Castle, Cathedral Art Project, Nebraska Aids Project, and the Blue Barn Theatre.
Gerry first became aware of MCC through his involvement with Equal Omaha on the anti-discrimination ordinance; he was impressed when MCC was one of the first organizations to come out publicly in support of the ordinance. He and his partner Bob Benzel, subsequently established a scholarship through MCCF for GLBT students, starting a positive and lasting relationship with both the College and Foundation in memory of David M. Rice and Ephraim L. Marks.
Gerry is impressed and amazed at the opportunities for a great education, at an affordable cost, offered by MCC. Gerry believes that a good solid education is not only necessary to succeed in a career, but also to really enjoy life - and MCC, like all great colleges, is truly a marketplace of ideas, providing nourishment for the mind and soul, as well as the educational degrees necessary to succeed in today’s job market.
