MCCF Scholarship FAQ
Who can apply for a scholarship?
Scholarship opportunities are open to all students attending or planning to attend Metropolitan Community College.
What scholarship opportunities are available for me?
Many scholarships are set up by academic program areas, and others are more general in nature. See the MCCF Scholarship list page for a complete listing of scholarships held at the MCC Foundation.
What can I use my scholarship award for?
Scholarship awards can be used to cover the cost of tuition, books, fees or other supplemental expenses such as equipment or tools. Your award letter from the MCC Foundation will spell this out for you. Scholarships may only be used as designated.
Can a scholarship be suspended or revoked?
Yes, it is possible to lose a scholarship if a recipient does not follow the guidelines associated with the award. The two most important areas are grade point average (GPA) and hours taken. Some scholarships require periodic check-ins with academic advisors, as well.
Are the scholarship award amounts fixed year to year?
No. The award amounts are determined each year by the Foundation Board of Directors. Please plan accordingly, since the scholarship payouts may vary from year to year.
How do I set up my online student account?
The scholarship application process is quick, easy and free! Visit AwardSpring and enter the requested information. This is your permanent account and may be accessed at any time or place.
How do I apply for a scholarship?

When do I apply?
The application dates are spring and fall of each year. Dates vary and are subject to change, so check the Scholarship page for dates. Please be sure to submit your application on time; the foundation is not able to process late applications.
Are there any other forms of financial aid?
Metropolitan Community College offers a variety of financial assistance for students. Students may apply based on financial need or merit. Don’t forget to visit FAFSA to see if you qualify for federal assistance. Information and applications are available at the Financial Aid site or contact the MCC Financial Aid Office at 402-457-2330.
Will a scholarship affect the amount of my student loan?
Scholarships can reduce the amount of loans you need to meet your expenses. Since loans need to be repaid and scholarships do not, scholarships are definitely worth applying for!
Will a scholarship affect the amount of my Pell grant?
If you are awarded a Scholarship, it will not decrease the amount of any Pell grant you receive.
How do scholarships affect work-study?
Scholarships might reduce the maximum number of work-study hours available for some students. Scholarships can give you more time to devote to your studies without losing income because of decreased work-study hours. Check with the Financial Aid office to see how this might impact you.
Why do I need to complete a FAFSA to apply for a scholarship?
MCC Foundation scholarships are awarded in partnership with the offices of MCC financial aid and MCC student accounts. Even if you don’t qualify for other forms of financial aid, completing the FAFSA helps us determine your level of financial need for those scholarships that require it. Remember, “financial need” does not necessarily mean that you have no income – some scholarships are set up to assist those who are working full-time and going to school, too.
How will I know if I’ve been selected to receive a scholarship?

Why do I need to send a thank-you letter before my scholarship is added to my student account?
Scholarships are funded through the generous donations of staff, faculty and community members. Donors give money to the MCC Foundation to make a difference in a student's life. Showing the donors how much their generosity means to you can make the difference in whether they give to the MCC Foundation.
Will I receive a check in the mail or will the scholarship be put on my student account?
Scholarship awards are placed on student accounts after the census date for the quarter they are awarded. For textbook scholarships, please contact Lisa Stepanek at least 48 hours before you plan to pick up your books.
If I receive a scholarship, does that make me an MCCF Scholar?
Yes, if you receive a scholarship from the MCC Foundation you are a MCCF Scholar. Please let the MCC Foundation know when you fill out your graduation paperwork. This will insure that you are added to our list of MCCF Scholars that will receive a silver honor cord to wear at graduation.
