Kevin Duffy

Course

FINA 2330: Estate Planning

Kevin Duffy currently serves as Nebraska's Sarpy Deputy County Attorney. Mr. Duffy has held numerous positions in public service including serving as legal counsel to the Judicial Committee for the Nebraska State Legislature. He has also done extensive work and research in the area of estate planning. Mr. Duffy teaches Estate Planning in MCC's Financial Planning Program and has also participated in the program as a student.

Dr. Lothringer, a full-time faculty member at MCC's Sarpy Center, teaches courses in Financial Planning and serves as MCC's Financial Planning Program Director. Since coming to Metropolitan Community College (MCC) in 1991, Dr. Lothringer has served in various roles including the Samuel Moore Walton Free Enterprise Fellow and Advisor for the Project Export-It Grant Management Team. External to college activities, she has participated as a member/advisor on numerous Boards including the Financial Planning Association of Nebraska and the Omaha Public Schools Academy of Finance. Dr. Lothringer is an active member of a several professional organizations including the Association for Financial Counseling and Planning Education and the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences. Recently, honored as the recipient of the ConAgra Foods Excellence in Teaching Award (2007) and the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Award (2007), her areas of interest/research include the relationship between academic and workplace integrity.

John Miller

Course

FINA 2310: Income Tax Planning

John Miller is a full-time faculty member at MCC's Elkhorn Valley campus where he has taught courses in Accounting and Finance for almost 10 years. Mr. Miller is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' IRS Practice and Procedures Committee and was recently appointed to a third year of Membership Editor of this committee’s section of the national monthly publication, Tax Adviser. Mr. Miller has assisted in the research and publication of a response to the Internal Revenue Service on IRS Code Sections 6111 and 6112 addressing reportable transactions. A member of the Nebraska Society of Certified Public Accountants, and currently serving as a chairman of the Ethics Committee, Mr. Miller maintains a thriving private tax planning and preparation business. His areas of interest include Income Tax Planning and Education.

Pat Motika

Pat Motika began her teaching career with Metropolitan Community College in 2003. Ms. Motika, a recent graduate from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, has also participated in MCC's Financial Planning Program as a student. Ms. Motika is a member of the Financial Management Association and the Financial Planning Association. Her areas of interest are financial analysis and portfolio management.

Jennifer Murnane

Jennifer Murnane comes to MCC with ten years of experience in the securities industry which includes working as a Securities Analysts for an investment advisory firm and as a Director at the nation's leading online brokerage firm TDAmeritrade. Currently affiliated with Bellevue University as the Assistant Director of the Human Capital Laboratory, her academic pursuits include serving as a reviewer for the International Journal of Consumer Sciences and membership in the Financial Management Association as well as Phi Upsilon Omicron Family and Consumer Sciences Honorary. Ms. Murnane is the recipient of the Iowa State University Brewer Memorial Scholarship and Iowa State University Bentler Memorial Scholarship. Demonstrating her commitment to quality and accessible financial planning education, Ms. Murnane has facilitated the Single Parent Homemaker Services Financial Literacy Program.

Karen Scott

FINA 2210: Financial Planning Principles and Insurance

Karen Scott began her teaching career with Metropolitan Community College a number of years ago teaching courses in Accounting. Before coming to MCC, Karen served in a number of corporate positions such as corporate controller, and worked with various organizations including government entities. Having grown tired of the grueling schedule and endless workload in public accounting, Karen decided to make a career change and pursue a profession in teaching. Teaching the Financial Planning Principles and Insurance course, Karen stays current in legislative and industry changes affecting financial planning including those related to risk management and income taxes. Karen is an active member of the Nebraska Society of CPA’s, the AICPA, and the Financial Planning Association. Karen’s commitment to public service includes conducting workshops such as the Personal Finance Best Practices for High School Finance Teachers. Karen is also a faculty member at the College for Financial Planning teaching courses in Financial Planning and Risk Management.
