The program is held for 6 weeks during the summer at 6 different locations in our 4 county service area. Five day sessions are held at schools in Blair, Bennington, Millard, Gretna, and Papillion/La Vista. No classes are held the week of July 4th. There is a place on the application to check the locations where you would be willing to teach. More is better - this helps you be employed more weeks.
College for Kids students enroll for one week at a time. Each class is priced separately, so they may enroll for 1, 2, or 3 classes in any given week. They may enroll for 3 different weeks taking only one or two classes per week - it's their choice. The program is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday each week, with 3, hour long class periods in that time frame. They may enroll for a 9-10:00, 10-11:00, or 11-12:00 class. The hour long classes are offered for 3 different age groups: 6-7 year olds, 8-9 year olds, and 10-11 year olds. There will be more than one class to choose from for each age group for each hour long time slot. Each instructor is asked to adjust your curriculum so that you can teach all three age groups each day - giving you the possibility of 15 hours of teaching per week. Preschool and High Five classes are the exception. They meet in the same room with one teacher from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday each week. The maximum class size is 20 students. If we have additional students on a waiting list we will contact you before adding any additional students.
For more information about enrolling, please go to www.mccneb.edu/collegeforkidsteens.
Eligible applicants must be at least a junior in college and have some elementary age teaching experience. A degree in Elementary Education or a related field is not required, but is preferred.
Instructors will submit ideas for classes to the coordinator with their application and will write their own lesson plans if selected. Some instructors return each year, but we are always looking for new ideas and topics. Being able/willing to teach more than one kind of class will be a benefit. We can alternate classes which gives you the opportunity to teach more weeks. In order for your application to be considered, you must give us specific class titles with a description of what you will teach during the week. There is a place on the application to give us this information. Please give us as many as you have - you never know which one might be just the one we need to round out the offerings. If we already have your application and you have additional classes you would like to propose, please email me with your additional ideas.
We would like to be able to hire everyone for the full 6 weeks, but our enrollment will not support it. The enrollment varies from location to location, so at the locations with higher enrollment we will schedule more class choices for each age group - thus needing more teachers those weeks. All classes are subject to cancellation if enrollment minimums are not met. We try to provide teachers at least 4 weeks of employment with the possibility of more depending on topics needed in a given year. MCC will purchase all supplies for the classes. Instructors will turn in a list of needed supplies along with your lesson plan to the Supply Coordinator in May. Your supplies will be delivered to your classroom the first day you teach.
College for Kids is a great way to spend part of your summer. The classes are fun with lots of hands on activities and new experiences. The kids want to be there and have a great time. Many stay with us from Preschool all the way through to age 11. If you would like to fill out an application please go to http://www.mccneb.edu/ce/c4kapp.doc.
After filling out the application, please save it as an MS Word document and email it to email@example.com.
