David Newell was elected to serve District 2 (northeast Douglas County) in November 2002. He was re-elected in 2010.
During his tenure on the board, his priorities have been: holding the line on property tax levy during the past five years, keeping student costs affordable by resisting tuition increases and student fees and keeping MCC the lowest cost educational provider. MCC's niche is to provide a quality education and to minimize student debt.
Newell is self-employed real estate investor and manager and a former state senator who represented northeast Douglas County from 1977 to 1985. He received his Associate of Arts Degree from Norfolk Junior College. He received a Bachelor's of Science Degree with teaching endorsements in social studies.
A Vietnam War veteran, he is married and has two adult children.
